Lagos: Equinix, the world’s digital infrastructure company, has unveiled plans to establish a new high-performance data center in Lagos, Nigeria, representing a $22 million investment. This project, known as LG3, is the initial phase of a broader $100 million initiative aimed at enhancing Africa’s digital landscape over the coming two years. Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026, the facility is expected to provide essential infrastructure for local businesses and attract international companies to this key hub for global connectivity.
According to African Press Organization, the LG3 data center will also include the integration of Equinix Fabric, allowing businesses to securely connect their physical and virtual infrastructures to cloud service providers, partners, and other companies globally. This marks a significant step in Equinix’s effort to bridge Africa’s digital divide. Wole Abu, Managing Director for West Africa at Equinix, emphasized Lagos’s role at the intersection of talent, innovation, and global connectivity, noting that the facility will accelerate access to technologies such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
Olawale Owoeye, Managing Director at Cedarview, expressed that the new data center will offer a robust platform for customers to expand their digital presence. The reliability and access to a global ecosystem will enable Cedarview to deliver high-performance solutions, ensuring it remains at the forefront of connecting businesses across Africa.
Nigeria, as the second-largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa, boasts a vibrant and tech-savvy population, with Lagos recognized as the sole African city in the Global Top 100 Startup Ecosystems. Aslihan Grescier, Vice President of EMEA Growth and Emerging Markets at Equinix, highlighted the rapid digital transformation in Africa, driven by a young population and increasing demand for secure data infrastructure. Equinix’s investment in Lagos seeks to support this growth with world-class data centers powering various sectors.
Since entering the African market in 2022, Equinix has expanded its reach to key markets including Nigeria, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire. The company also opened a data center in Johannesburg, South Africa, further solidifying its presence on the continent and advancing Africa’s digital transformation.
