Post: EU Strengthens Strategic Partnership with Nigeria

The European Union (EU) has announced its commitment to elevating its relationship with Nigeria to new heights, signalling a promising future for both parties.

This declaration was made by the outgoing EU Ambassador to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Samuela Isopi, during a recent media briefing in Abuja.

Ambassador Isopi, who led a delegation on a courtesy visit to Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasised Nigeria’s crucial role as a strong ally of the EU and highlighted the nation’s position as one of the EU’s largest trading partners.

‘The European Union has been working closely with Nigeria for the past years. We also have really developed our collaboration in many areas. European Union as you know is Nigeria’s largest trading partner.

‘It is also Nigeria’s top investor. I was telling the Vice President that we have over 200 private investors here in Nigeria and EU companies are investing here in manufacturing which means developing Nigerian industries as
well as creating jobs for the youths,’ Ms Isopi disclosed.

She emphasised that Nigeria is a key player and partner, adding that the EU is confident that its alliance with Nigeria will keep waxing stronger.

The EU Ambassador added that West Africa as a whole is a region that is very dear to the EU.

‘The EU will keep working in the region because it is a neighbouring region for Europe and whatever happens in this part of Africa affects us and is of interest to us,’ she added.

The outgoing Ambassador said she had served in Nigeria for three years and it was time for her to say goodbye.
