Abuja:The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has emphasized the need for ongoing capacity building in the area of competition reporting and related issues.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Tunji Bello, the Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC, highlighted that competition matters are relatively new in the country and require specialized knowledge for journalists, regulators, and various stakeholders.
Bello stated that the FCCPC has prioritized stakeholders’ education on competition law and consumer protection regulations. Recently, the commission supported the training of judges through the National Judicial Institute (NJI) to enhance their understanding of competition-related issues. He pointed out the necessity for judicial members to be familiar with the intricacies of this emerging field.
He also stressed the significant role that the media plays in increasing public awareness about competition and consumer protection matters. Bello acknowledged that the FCCPC’s growing public recognition is largely due to the media coverage they have received.
