Federal Airports Fully Insured, Confirms FAAN MD

Abuja: The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that all federal airports under its management are fully insured. Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, provided this assurance while addressing concerns about the insurance status of the airports.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Kuku emphasized that the insurance coverages for the airports are current, with documentation available to substantiate this. She also mentioned that essential maintenance activities, such as de-rubberisation and runway hygiene, have been completed, with records to support these actions.

Mrs. Kuku acknowledged challenges related to habitation and community issues affecting wildlife and bird strikes. She stated that FAAN is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to manage these challenges effectively. Furthermore, she addressed historical runway issues linked to structural and engineering concerns, noting that comprehensive overhauls and maintenance are being implemented to resolve these problems gradually.

The News Agency of Nigeria also reports that de-rubberisation involves removing rubber deposits from runways to improve the landing grip of aircraft tyres.
