Abuja:The Federal Government has launched Inter-Ministerial Task Teams to assess reforms in the public service to enhance governance, accountability, and service delivery nationwide. Dr. Dasuki Arabi, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), initiated the teams on Monday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Arabi emphasized the importance of these assignments in fostering transparency, institutional development, and ongoing reforms within the public service. The teams are tasked with reviewing and producing the National Strategy for Public Service Reforms 2026-2030 and the Compendium on Public Service Reforms, among other responsibilities.
The teams will also develop tools and guidelines for the creation of government agencies, parastatals, and commissions, along with an oversight framework for governance, board evaluation, and compliance monitoring across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Arabi highlighted that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to build an effective, accountable, and results-driven public service.
He expressed confidence that the reforms would address gaps in previous strategies and adapt to current realities, focusing on institutional and governance reforms, human capital development, professionalization, digital transformation, and innovation. Arabi noted that the new strategy and compendium are expected to be completed within six working weeks.
Mr. Muhammad Ahmad, a retiree, emphasized the need for adequate funding, resources, and institutional support for BPSR to effectively carry out its functions. Ahmad stressed the importance of institutionalizing reforms and maintaining professionalism and adherence to established rules within the public service.
Dr. Steve Ogidan, CEO of Successory Nigeria Ltd., encouraged task team members to dedicate sufficient time to their assignments, highlighting that the guidelines and frameworks being developed would facilitate clearer structures and procedures for public servants. He urged members to contribute their institutional knowledge and emphasized the need for collective commitment and cooperation among government institutions.
