Abuja: The Federal Government has announced progress in the execution of zonal intervention and constituency projects across the six geopolitical zones of the country. The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Zaphaniah Jisalo, shared this during the presentation of the Annual Status Report and the launch of a compendium in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the report, titled ‘Actualising President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through Implementation of Zonal Interventions/Constituency Projects,’ highlighted the verification and certification of 772 intervention projects. These projects span critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and community development, showcasing the government’s commitment to accountability and transparency.
The minister emphasized that the launch of the compendium is a milestone in documenting and verifying projects, aimed at promoting transparency and strengthening public trust in government interventions. Jisalo also appreciated the support from the National Assembly, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), development partners, and the media in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Onwusoro Maduka, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, presented the status report, noting the ministry’s re-establishment in 2019 with a focus on monitoring and coordinating intervention projects. In the 2023 appropriation, the ministry monitored projects valued at N100 billion, with a performance rate of 28.88 percent. For 2024, a significant improvement was recorded with a 43.13 percent performance rate, largely due to the deployment of the GIS Project Management Information System (GIS-PMIS).
Maduka highlighted the strategic intervention projects planned under the 2025 appropriation, which include infrastructure, empowerment, and security enhancement. He also warned that MDAs failing to comply with verification directives could face administrative sanctions.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Tajudeen Abbas, represented by Mr. Dickson Tarkighir, commended the ministry for the report and compendium, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in strengthening transparency and evidence-based governance. Abbas reiterated the House’s commitment to providing legislative support and oversight to ensure effective deployment of public resources.
The compendium is expected to serve as a reference for understanding the distribution and impact of government intervention projects, urging stakeholders to remain committed to responsible governance and inclusive development.
