Post: FG Orders April Completion of 7th Axial Road Sandfilling

Lagos: The Federal Government has directed the contractor responsible for the construction of the Seventh Axial Road, spanning from the Dangote Refinery in Lagos State to Sagamu in Ogun, to complete the sandfilling phase by the end of April. This directive was issued by the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, during an inspection of the project in Lagos.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Seventh Axial Road is intended to serve as one of the main routes for evacuating cargoes from the Lekki Deep Sea Port. Additionally, the proposed Lagos State International Airport is planned to be located along this corridor. The construction project is being executed by China Harbour Engineering Company, and the Federal Government has provided 30 percent of the counterpart funding for Lots One and Two.

The contractor is expected to secure 70 percent of the required funds through foreign loans in dollars. The 25-kilometer dual carriageway will be tolled upon completion. However, Umahi expressed that the current progress, which involves clearing, is insufficient. A significant focus is on the sandfilling process, with instructions to adhere to the proper procedures.

Umahi also announced that the concrete pavement phase is anticipated to commence in November. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the strict timetable and instructed the resident engineer to ensure that 90 percent of the necessary equipment, as outlined in the bid document, is present on-site within two weeks.
