Post: FG to Prioritise Completion of Housing Projects Nationwide in 2026

Abuja: The Federal Government has pledged to prioritise ongoing housing projects across the country. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, made this known during the ministry’s expanded management meeting in Abuja with heads of departments and units.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dangiwa stated that the meeting aimed to review the ministry’s 2025 performance and present the 2026 work plan. He emphasised that the ministry will prioritise the completion of all ongoing projects, particularly the Renewed Hope Housing Projects. This commitment aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s goal to provide Nigerians with access to affordable and decent housing.

The minister highlighted that 2026 is a defining year for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. He noted that despite funding challenges in 2025, the ministry achieved significant milestones in its presidential priorities and ministerial deliverables. These accomplishments included reforms in land administration and the delivery of Renewed Hope Cities in Karsana Abuja, Kano, and Lagos, which are set for commissioning soon.

Dangiwa urged staff to increase their efforts and commitment, asserting that more can be achieved in 2026 when funding becomes available. He disclosed that the Federal Government has made firm commitments to address funding gaps and clear outstanding liabilities. The minister also encouraged the Directors of the Departments of Public Private Partnership (PPP) and Public Buildings to intensify monitoring of various sites to ensure effective and timely project delivery.

He charged department heads to ensure that mobilised contractors have clear project completion timelines and are closely monitored. Dangiwa stressed the importance of consolidating the ministry’s legacy in 2026 to showcase achievements to Nigerians and the international community. He called for staff cooperation and inputs to help the Federal Government achieve its Renewed Hope Housing Agenda.

Regarding Renewed Hope Cities, Dangiwa announced that three additional locations-Maiduguri, Enugu, and Port Harcourt-would be added, bringing the total to six alongside existing projects in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Shuaib Belgore, affirmed that the Departments of Public Private Partnership and Public Buildings are expected to meet their targets in 2026. He assured them of the necessary support to achieve their goals and noted that maximum publicity programmes would be implemented to showcase the administration’s successes and achievements as part of its 2026 scorecard.
