Kano: The Public Enlightenment Movement Project has announced that the ongoing 2,136-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway will play a crucial role in enhancing trade, easing travel, and strengthening national integration between the northern and southern regions of the country. The statement was made by the Movement’s Coordinator, Mr. Nuhu Abdullahi, during the launch of the second phase of the Public Enlightenment Movement Project in Kano.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Abdullahi highlighted the project’s significance in connecting eight states-Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos-thus opening new economic opportunities for millions of Nigerians. He noted that the first phase of the programme showcased the visible transformation across Northern Nigeria due to federal investments in infrastructure, agriculture, and social development.
In his address, Abdullahi emphasized that the second phase aims to spotlight new federal projects, particularly the 2,136km Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway. “This road will enhance trade, facilitate mobility, and strengthen unity between regions,” he stated.
Abdullahi also mentioned the dualisation of the 926-kilometre Sokoto-Zamfara-Zaria Road as another significant ongoing project intended to improve travel and economic activities across the North-West and North-Central Zones. Additionally, he pointed out that the 500-kilometre Benue-9th Mile Enugu Road is expected to ease goods movement and reinforce economic ties between the North and the South-East.
The coordinator further explained that equitable fund allocations to Northern states and renewed security operations have restored community confidence and encouraged participation in national development. He called on citizens to support government efforts by providing timely information to security agencies and participating in peacebuilding initiatives.
“This phase reinforces trust and demonstrates President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to Northern Nigeria. We must remain united and support these initiatives to guarantee long-term growth and stability,” Abdullahi urged.
In closing, Abdullahi expressed gratitude to the participants for their support and optimism that the ongoing federal projects would transform livelihoods and stimulate economic progress across the region.
