Ouagadougou:Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets are scheduled to depart for Burkina Faso on Tuesday with a 25-man squad to compete in the WAFU-B U-17 Championship in Ouagadougou.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Head Coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere has selected the team for the tournament, which also acts as a qualifier for the next year’s U-17 Africa Cup of Nations. The team, five-time FIFA U-17 World Cup champions, has been placed in Group B, along with Niger and host nation Burkina Faso.
The Golden Eaglets will commence their campaign against Burkina Faso on Saturday, aiming for qualification to the continental tournament in Morocco. They concluded their final training session in Nigeria on Monday at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
National Sports Commission Director-General Bukola Olopade encouraged the players to adhere to their coach’s guidance throughout the competition. He emphasized the importance of performing well and excelling as representatives of Nigeria at the U-17 national level.
Expressing confidence in the team’s abilities, Olopade stated his optimism that they will perform strongly and secure a spot in the U-17 AFCON. He urged the players to apply what they have learned under the head coach, expressing strong belief in their potential to perform admirably.
The squad includes three goalkeepers, seven defenders, eight midfielders, and seven forwards. The goalkeepers are Mutiu Adenle, Abdulfatai Seriki, and Richard Oguama. The defenders include Chinedu Nchoje, Goodness Ukwubile, Victor Ogbonna, Daniel Dickson, Chinonso Umenozie, Jamiu Issa, and Daniel Agunzi. The midfielders are Israel Irabor, Adewolu Lukman, Izuchukwu Ogboji, Sochima Emeka, Michael Ekundayo, Al-Ameen Adegboya, Saeed Hussaini, and Abubakar Abdulrasaq. The forwards are Godswill Usoro, Daniel Lawrence, Chiedozie Igboenyobe, Faruq Azeez, David Fagbamila, Mubarak Fasiu, and Abiodun John.
