New delhi: India has secured more than 50 practical outcomes across four priority areas during its 2026 BRICS Chairship, as revealed by Shri Sudhakar Dalela, a senior official of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Dalela, the Secretary of Economic Relations in the MEA, shared this information at a special news conference discussing the results of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the outcomes were developed under four pillars: resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability. The focus was on practical, development-oriented, and people-centered initiatives. Dalela stated that India organized over 350 meetings, encompassing physical and virtual platforms, across various thematic clusters, ministerial meetings, working groups, business sessions, and people-focused activities during its chairship.
The initiatives covered food and health security, including the establishment of the BRICS Centre for Excellence in Agroecology, BRICS Network on Physical Agriculture, and BRICS Mission for Healthy Lifestyle. Cooperation on mental wellness and disaster risk reduction management was also prioritized. Under innovation, BRICS countries advanced collaboration in science, research, technology, and entrepreneurship, which included the BRICS Science and Research Repository, Startup Innovation Fund, and Incubator Network.
In the cooperation pillar, initiatives such as the BRICS MSME Cooperation Portal, cooperation on global value chains, and the BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation Framework were developed. Regarding sustainability, BRICS countries worked together on smart grids, energy storage, climate-resilient urban infrastructure, sustainable urban mobility, and climate-resilient agriculture. Dalela emphasized that these initiatives demonstrate India’s effort to make BRICS more practical, solution-oriented, and responsive to people’s needs.
Dalela noted that the New Delhi Declaration and more than 50 practical outcomes provide a strong foundation for the next phase of BRICS cooperation. He stated, “The true measure of a chairship is not simply the number of meetings that are held. It is the quality of participation, the ability to build consensus and the outcomes that are created.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that BRICS is a group of major emerging economies that cooperate on economic, political, and development issues. Initially, the group included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. As of 2026, BRICS has expanded to include 11 full members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia.
