Post: Insurgency: Commandant AWDC Visits N/E to Boost Airpower Operations

Maiduguri: The Commandant, Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC), AVM Ibrahim Jibia, has paid an assessment visit to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Maiduguri. The Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, stated that the visit was part of measures to enhance airpower capabilities and strengthen joint force integration in the theatre.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Uba mentioned that the engagement was designed for Jibia to interface with aircrew deployed under Operation HADIN KAI and to interact with the Theatre Commander following his assumption of duty as the new Commandant AWDC. Jibia emphasized that the visit aligned with the Chief of the Air Staff’s philosophy, which prioritizes deliberate training and mission-oriented force development as key pillars for strengthening airpower.

Jibia highlighted the importance of air mindedness in shaping a professional and combat-ready Nigerian Air Force. He noted that the Service had intensified efforts to strengthen synergy, joint training, and integrated operations, which are essential attributes of a formidable fighting force. He commended the Theatre Commander, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, for his leadership and the successes recorded by OPHK troops in fighting terrorism.

Jibia praised the personnel’s gallantry and resilience in their efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the region. He assured them of the solid support from the Armed Forces and well-meaning Nigerians. Jibia, who was briefed on the ongoing operations for necessary recommendations for more effectiveness, further reaffirmed the commitment of the AWDC to supporting OPHK. He assured that concerns raised during the briefing would be given due attention.

In his remarks, Abubakar congratulated Jibia on his recent promotion and appointment as Commandant AWDC, describing him as a seasoned and experienced pilot whose expertise would enhance joint operations within the theatre. He expressed gratitude for the visit, noting that OPHK would greatly benefit from the engagement. The Theatre Commander reaffirmed OPHK’s commitment to adopting AWDC’s innovative ideas on joint training and exercises to enhance operational effectiveness.

He also appreciated the sacrifices and sustained commitment of the Nigerian Air Force to capacity development and operational support within the theatre. The engagement was attended by the Deputy Theatre Commander, AVM Olusola Akinboyewa; Component Commanders; Chief of Staff Headquarters Theatre Command, Brig.-Gen. Sani Ahmed; and Principal Staff Officers of Headquarters Theatre Command.
