Post: Kaduna COE Lecturers Praise Governor Sani for Implementing New Salary Structure

Kaduna: The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Gidanwaya chapter, Kaduna State, has commended Governor Uba Sani for approving the implementation of the 70 percent CONPCASS/CONTEDNISS improved salary structure. The union had previously embarked on a strike in September to demand the revised salary structure and other benefits.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the industrial action was suspended after three weeks when the state government demonstrated its commitment to meet the union’s demands. The union’s commendation was conveyed in a communique signed by its chairman, Dr. Christopher Yerima, released in Kafanchan.

The communique followed a unanimous resolution reached at the union’s Congress on November 18. The union also praised the governor for approving the 65 years retirement age policy, releasing accreditation funds, and renovating hostels and science laboratories.

In addition, appreciation was extended to other notable figures in the state for their contributions to advancing teacher education in the college and the state. These included Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Senator Sunday Katung (APC-Kaduna South); and Representative Dan Amos, representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency.

Others acknowledged were Professor Abubakar Sambo, Commissioner for Education, and Ismaila Lawal, Chairman of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Committee on Education. The union leadership has been tasked with drafting a strong-worded letter of commendation to the governor and the other mentioned personalities.
