Kano:The government of Kano State has announced the recruitment of 2,037 health workers, as Governor Abba Yusuf cautioned the new recruits against mistreating patients or demanding payment before providing consultation or emergency services in public health facilities.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Director-General on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mr. Sanusi Bature, emphasized the recruitment’s purpose was to address the shortage of manpower in healthcare facilities across the state. Governor Yusuf provided a breakdown of the new recruits, which includes 250 medical doctors, 40 pharmacists, 250 nurses, 250 midwives, 150 Community Health Officers, 50 Junior Community Health Extension Workers, and 50 medical laboratory scientists, among other health professionals.
Governor Yusuf highlighted the recruitment’s necessity due to the existing shortage of healthcare workers, which has been exacerbated by the migration of doctors, nurses, and other professionals seeking better opportunities elsewhere. He urged the newly appointed health personnel to perform their duties with compassion, integrity, discipline, and professionalism.
The governor also underscored the importance of respecting patients’ rights and dignity, regardless of their social status, religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation. He stressed that no patient should face delays in medical attention or endure hardship due to an inability to pay before receiving care. Governor Yusuf encouraged the new health workers to view their roles as a commitment to serve the people of Kano State and enhance the quality of healthcare delivery throughout the region.
