Post: Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal Repairs Underway After Rainstorm Damage: Wike

Abuja: Ministers of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced that repairs have commenced on the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal, which was partially damaged by a rainstorm. Wike made this statement in Abuja after inspecting ongoing projects, noting that the damage was the result of a natural disaster beyond anyone’s control.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the incident took place on April 7, when a rainstorm blew off the terminal’s roof, scattering debris onto the Abuja-Keffi Expressway. The Minister expressed gratitude that no lives were lost and clarified that only the roofing sheets were affected. He emphasized that the terminal did not collapse and assured that the structure remains intact.

The Minister explained, “What happened was that a strong wind blew off parts of the roof, but repairs are ongoing.” The News Agency of Nigeria also reports that the Kugbo bus and taxi terminal is one of three newly built terminals inaugurated in June 2025. Wike had initiated the construction of terminals in Mabushi, the Central Business District, and Kugbo in July 2024 to improve commuter safety and convenience.

Wike further explained that although the bus terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi were completed and inaugurated in 2025, they could not commence operations immediately due to the management requirements exceeding ministerial approval. He noted that operations at the completed terminals would begin soon, following the Federal Executive Council’s approval.

The Minister confirmed that President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council have approved the management of the bus terminals in Mabushi and Kugbo through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement.
