Lagos: The Lagos State Government has allocated N150 million to the 2025 Agrithon finalists as part of its efforts to enhance agricultural sustainability and systems within the state. This funding was announced during the state’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems Agrinnovation Summit 2.0 held in Lagos.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the finalists from the Lagos Agrithon underwent a series of selection processes leading up to the grand finale last week. Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam Egube, reiterated the state’s dedication to building sustainable food systems to support its increasing population.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of the Lagos Agri-Innovation Summit as a platform for innovation, youth empowerment, and food security. He highlighted Lagos State’s role as a leader in agricultural innovation in Nigeria and reiterated the state’s commitment to transforming agriculture from subsistence to sustainability with the Lagos State Agricultural Food Systems Roadmap 2021-2025. The governor encouraged the awardees to utilize the grants to promote agro-innovation in the state.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, expressed her vision of fostering a youth-led, efficient agricultural ecosystem. She highlighted the importance of the Agrinnovation Club in bridging young agripreneurs with the broader agricultural transformation goals of Lagos State. Ms. Olusanya shared examples of young innovators making impactful changes in the state, emphasizing the importance of nurturing innovative beginnings through partnerships, mentorship, and resource access.
