Lagos:The Lagos Mainland Local Government in Lagos State has extended food and financial assistance to 500 elders as part of a community-wide palliative initiative.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the announcement was made by the Chairman of the council, Mr. Jubriel Emilagba, during the second edition of the empowerment program for elders in Lagos.
Each beneficiary received a 10kg bag of rice, wheat, a carton of noodles, and N50,000 in cash. The initiative reflects the council’s dedication to addressing the needs of the elderly and ensuring their welfare is prioritized.
The selection of beneficiaries was done across wards without political bias, underscoring Emilagba’s commitment to inclusive governance. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of elders and ensuring their dignity and happiness.
Emilagba highlighted that his administration consistently strives to impact both infrastructure and the daily lives of residents. This commitment is evident in initiatives like the Ounje Emi food support program and free healthcare services.
Mr. Kazeem Omolaja, an APC candidate for the House of Representatives, praised the initiative’s timing and impact. Beneficiary Pa Adebola Adekunle expressed gratitude and encouraged support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
The event featured a dancing competition for the elders, with prizes awarded to the top three performers. The gathering was attended by various council and community leaders, showcasing broad support for the initiative.
