Lagos: The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) on Wednesday inaugurated a technical and mechanical workshop in Ijede, Ikorodu, aiming to boost operational efficiency and enhance service delivery within the agency.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the newly established workshop is the first of its kind for the agency. During the inauguration ceremony, LNSA General Manager, Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, highlighted the importance of the workshop in strengthening service delivery and improving the operational readiness and mobility of officers. Oyekan mentioned that the facility was necessary to address the recurring high costs associated with servicing the agency’s vehicles and equipment.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed all agencies to ensure prudent use of public funds and maintain accountability, which led to the establishment of the workshop. The facility will not only service the agency’s vehicles but also offer vehicle servicing and technical training opportunities to interested community members. Oyekan described the project as pioneering and revealed plans to replicate similar facilities in Badagry, Epe, Ikeja, and Lagos Island.
The workshop’s execution relied heavily on the agency’s in-house skilled mechanical professionals, with 16 personnel initially employed to operate the facility. Oyekan expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his support and acknowledged the traditional ruler and community residents for providing the necessary land and support.
Mr. Stephen Ogundipe, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, commended the agency’s leadership for its innovative approach. He stated that Lagos is setting a precedent for state policing, with many states looking up to it as a model.
Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Gbenga Oyerinde, represented by Permanent Secretary Mr. Sesan Ogundeko, emphasized the workshop’s potential to reduce government spending on repairs and servicing. They praised the agency’s management for their persistence in bringing the project to fruition.
Representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Mr. Moshood Abiodun described the facility as a significant step in sustaining Lagos State’s security infrastructure. He expressed pride in the workshop’s establishment within his constituency and advocated for its expansion as a training hub for students and sister agencies.
The LNSA, established in 2016, collaborates with communities, police, and other security agencies to gather intelligence and share information. The agency operates across all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas of Lagos State.
