Post: Livestock Ministry to Boost Northern Economy, Says Public Enlightenment Movement

Kano: Mr Nuhu Abdullahi, National Coordinator of the Public Enlightenment Movement, announced that the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development by President Bola Tinubu is expected to significantly impact the Northern economy. Abdullahi made this statement during the launch of the second phase of the movement’s nationwide sensitisation programme in Kano.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Abdullahi outlined that the programme aims to inform citizens about new infrastructure and development initiatives being implemented under Tinubu’s administration. The first phase of the project highlighted notable progress in the North, particularly in areas such as transport, energy, and social intervention programmes. Abdullahi emphasized that the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development is a strategic measure to modernise livestock production, strengthen the value chain, and reduce frequent farmer-herder conflicts in the region.

He further explained that improved livestock management systems will boost productivity, support agribusiness growth, and increase income opportunities for rural families across the North. Abdullahi described the creation of the ministry as a landmark intervention that will reshape economic activities, especially in Northern communities that rely heavily on livestock.

The second phase of the programme will focus on recently approved national infrastructure projects, such as the 2,136km Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, which traverses Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos States. Abdullahi noted that the completed road will enhance trade, ease travel, and strengthen economic relations between Northern and Southern Nigeria.

He also praised the ongoing dualisation of the Sokoto-Zamfara-Zaria Road and the Benue 9th Mile Enugu Expressway, citing these projects as evidence of the administration’s dedication to improving connectivity and expanding economic opportunities for millions of citizens. Abdullahi noted that the Federal Government’s continued investments in agriculture, infrastructure, and community empowerment have revitalised livelihoods in rural communities.

Abdullahi highlighted the equitable distribution of federal resources to Northern states as an indication of the president’s commitment to balanced national development. On matters of security, he urged citizens to aid government efforts by providing timely and credible information to security operatives, stressing that peace and stability require collective vigilance.

He concluded by calling for ongoing support for the president’s programmes, stating that the second phase of the initiative reaffirms Tinubu’s commitment to the growth of Northern Nigeria.
