Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has revealed the formation of a substantial Rainbow Coalition, a multi-party political alliance, in support of President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike spoke to journalists in Abuja after inspecting ongoing projects, where he addressed recent high-level political realignments. This included a visit from Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to Wike’s residence, indicating a consolidation of political forces across party lines to back Tinubu.
Wike detailed that the meeting with Adeleke, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was to strategize on building a larger Rainbow Coalition. Adeleke, having shifted to the Accord Party due to internal conflicts, now supports Tinubu, aligning with Wike’s initiative to bring together political actors from various parties.
The minister described the coalition as a strategic move to unite diverse political entities in Rivers and extend the cooperation nationwide ahead of the 2027 elections. He also criticized opposition figures, asserting that they lack the influence they claim, especially following the recent electoral events in Osun.
Wike took a firm stance against opposition leaders like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Dele Momodu, emphasizing the internal crises that have weakened their platforms. He confidently stated that the upcoming election was already decided in favor of Tinubu, dismissing any notion of a formidable opposition presence.
Throughout his address, Wike expressed no concern for the political rivals’ well-being, declaring his intent to exacerbate their difficulties. He emphasized that causing discomfort to his opponents is part of his strategy, and he is committed to ensuring their challenges continue unabated.
