Post: Military Widow Support Initiative Aids 150 Families with Resources

Accra:The Military Widow Support Initiative (MWSI) has provided assistance to 150 widows of fallen military personnel. The support includes funds, food supplies, and access to health check-ups covering physical, mental, and dental aspects.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, The initiative, organized in collaboration with various organizations such as Revamp Initiatives, Givelify, and the Nigerian Navy Micro Finance Bank, also offered guidance on profitable investments to help the widows become more self-reliant. Navy Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, the patron of MWSI, highlighted the initiative’s aim to complement the efforts of the Armed Forces in supporting these widows, acknowledging the significant sacrifices they have made.

Folorunsho explained that the initiative began three years ago with personal funding and contributions from friends, and has since attracted additional sponsors. The program includes health assessments and consultations for the widows, as well as interest-free loans ranging from N1 million to N1.5 million for selected women with business proposals. Additionally, a sponsor has committed to training 20 widows in dressmaking and tailoring, providing accommodation during the training.

The outreach event also featured therapeutic painting and artwork sessions to foster a sense of belonging among the widows. Beneficiaries like Mrs. Olubunmi Oni and Mrs. Ibrahim Dotu expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing the importance of continuous assistance in areas such as education, employment, and skills acquisition to help them navigate their new realities.
