Abuja: The President of the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Mrs. Ngozi Aneke, has urged women to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to remain productive, adaptable, and confident in society. Aneke provided this advice during a NAFOWA Entrepreneurship and Capacity-Building Training held for its members.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the programme emphasized areas that are increasingly important for the growth and development of women, who face various responsibilities and demands. Aneke highlighted that many women possess valuable skills, talents, and ideas, yet the challenge often lies in transforming these abilities into profitable and sustainable opportunities. She pointed out that women may excel in areas like baking, tailoring, or hairdressing but often lack the knowledge to price products effectively, market online, or maintain financial records.
Aneke further elaborated that women with excellent business ideas-such as providing affordable meals, childcare services, or agricultural products-might not know how to develop a business plan, secure start-up capital, or manage their ventures efficiently. Similarly, women skilled in crafting or fashion accessories may not have learned to utilize social media and online platforms to reach a broader market.
She emphasized that the demands of modern society require women to be willing to learn and adapt, finding productive ways to respond to changing circumstances. Aneke stated that it is not sufficient for women to simply benefit from opportunities; they should also be equipped to recognize, create, and engage in economic activities.
According to her, the training aligns with her vision for NAFOWA, aiming to strengthen the association as a compassionate, inclusive, and impactful platform enhancing member welfare, empowering women, and promoting sustainable development. The initiative also complements the support of the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, in advancing women’s welfare, empowerment, and inclusion.
Aneke highlighted the importance of practical knowledge in transitioning from having a skill or idea to developing it into a productive endeavor. She stressed understanding entrepreneurship fundamentals, planning, business management, and developing confidence to pursue opportunities that enhance livelihoods.
The NAFOWA president underscored that the strength of any community is influenced by the capacity of its people. When women acquire the right knowledge and opportunities, society benefits from their creativity, enterprise, and experience. She urged participants to seize the opportunity, ask questions, and relate the training to their circumstances, encouraging them to improve existing businesses, develop skills, or pursue deferred ideas.
