Namibian Commandant Praises Nigerian Creative Industry, Seeks Partnership


Abuja: Brig.-Gen. Benhard Erastus, Commandant of the Namibian Command and Staff College, has lauded Nigeria’s creative sector, describing it as a model for other African nations. He made these remarks during an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as part of a courtesy visit to the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy (FMACTCE) in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Erastus, who led a delegation of students on a study tour to Nigeria, visited the ministry to gain insights into the workings of Nigeria’s creative sector. He emphasized Nigeria’s booming arts, culture, and creative industries, noting their global representation of the continent. Erastus expressed interest in exploring potential collaborations between Nigeria and Namibia, citing Nigeria’s prominence in the global market due to its vibrant creative industry.

Erastus highlighted Nigeria’s cultural richness and its successful export of cultural knowledge worldwide. He acknowledged the historical support Nig
eria offered Namibia and South Africa in their past struggles. He praised Nigeria’s representation of African heritage globally, suggesting other nations could benefit by aligning with Nigeria’s creative industry.

Mrs. Ugochi Akudo-Nwosu, Director overseeing the office of the Permanent Secretary of the FMACTCE, welcomed the Namibian delegation, reiterating the ministry’s commitment to sharing experiences and fostering mutual understanding. She recalled Nigeria’s significant role in Namibia’s independence and liberation efforts, emphasizing ongoing bilateral ties and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

The visit included an interactive session and a PowerPoint presentation detailing the ministry’s operations, showcasing how the FMACTCE integrates arts, culture, tourism, and creative economy to contribute to Nigeria’s national development goals.
