Yola: The Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the approval to establish a branch of the National Institute for Sports (NIS) in the state and the Northeast subregion. Prof. Farauta conveyed her appreciation during a meeting with the Director-General of the Institute in Yola, emphasizing the current administration’s dedication to utilizing sports as a medium for youth unification and fostering peaceful coexistence.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Prof. Farauta affirmed the government’s commitment to collaborating with relevant institutions to bolster the sporting industry throughout the Northeast. She underscored the importance of effectively engaging the youth through sports, noting that such initiatives can enhance national unity and drive positive development.
Earlier in the meeting, the Director-General of the NIS, Prof. Olawale Shaibu, detailed plans for the new campus, which aims to provide training for coaches, sports managers,
and sports scientists to advance sporting activities and professional capabilities in the state. He announced that the Adamawa office is set to commence operations in the first quarter of the coming year, offering 34 basic sporting courses alongside diploma and certificate programs at the zonal level.
Prof. Shaibu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s capacity to develop world-class coaches and athletes, emphasizing the need to train individuals who can achieve national and international success. He called for ongoing government support to rejuvenate Nigeria’s leadership in sports development.
During the visit, the NIS management presented a letter of engagement and a 10-year strategic plan for sports development to the Adamawa State Government.
