Abuja: An NGO has voiced its commitment to promoting Made-in-Nigeria products, emphasizing their importance in bolstering the nation’s economy. u Amadi, during an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), stressed that supporting local products invigorates indigenous industries and contributes significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and economic diversification.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Amadi highlighted that by endorsing Made-in-Nigeria products, citizens can facilitate economic growth, create jobs, and foster economic stability, ultimately leading to a more robust national economy. He explained that the NGO’s policy is centered around reducing reliance on oil and enhancing the global presence of Nigerian-made goods.
The OY-ITC’s collaboration with Nigerian manufacturers of finished goods is pivotal in advancing local manufacturing. Amadi elaborated that the strategy involves linking Nigerian products to international markets and value chains, thus promoting domestic industrial growth through enhanced export market access.
Amadi further explained that OY-ITC identifies youth-owned and youth-supported manufacturers and assists them in accessing international trade platforms, such as trade fairs and exhibitions. By connecting these manufacturers with foreign buyers, the NGO stimulates demand for locally produced items and encourages manufacturers to expand production capacity and elevate quality standards.
Participation in international trade events, facilitated by OY-ITC, has allowed Nigerian-made products to gain global visibility. Notable exhibitions include the Houston 2022 Trade Show and the Cameroon Trade Show, which have showcased Nigerian products on international stages.
The NGO also supports manufacturers through workshops and mentorship, helping them align their products with global standards for packaging, labeling, and safety. This guidance aims to ensure compliance with international requirements, thereby reducing rejection rates at borders and enhancing global competitiveness.
Amadi noted the organization’s efforts to aid local producers in improving product design, quality control, and compliance, making them more competitive on the global stage. The “Proudly Made in Nigeria” initiative seeks to market goods with cultural and national pride, contributing to the promotion of a national brand identity.
However, the president expressed concern that a significant portion of the population does not patronize Made-in-Nigeria products, posing a challenge to the nation’s economy. He urged Nigerians to support local products to strengthen manufacturing, drive technological innovation, and boost the GDP.
Amadi also called on authorities and stakeholders to increase awareness and promote favorable policies that enhance local production in Nigeria.
