Post: NIC Developing National Care Agenda for 2027 to Enhance Caregiving in Nigeria

Abuja: The National Institute of Caregivers (NIC) is in the process of crafting a National Care Agenda for 2027, aimed at advancing professional caregiving standards in Nigeria. The Director-General of the institute, Mr. Olusan Victor, announced this initiative in a statement, emphasizing the focus on various aspects of caregiver development and engagement.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the agenda will concentrate on several critical areas including professional caregiver development, care standards and quality, research and evidence, as well as policy and stakeholder engagement. Additionally, it will address public awareness, foster institutional partnerships, encourage caregiver career development, and promote innovation and digital systems within the caregiving sector.

Victor highlighted that the NIC plans to utilize the remainder of 2026 to initiate public conversations, engage stakeholders, and conduct professional development activities. These efforts are intended to lay the groundwork for a comprehensive program of activities in 2027. The NIC aims to partner with government institutions, universities, healthcare organizations, care facilities, and other stakeholders to strengthen Nigeria’s caregiving ecosystem.

The NIC is actively inviting organizations and individuals who align with this vision to collaborate. Partnership opportunities include areas such as caregiver education, professional development, research and data, care standards, public awareness, and community programs. Institutional capacity development, technology and digital innovation, policy dialogue, sponsorship, and donor-supported programs are also key components of the agenda.

Victor stressed the importance of transitioning from fragmented discussions on caregiving to a coordinated national strategy. He emphasized that caregiving affects every Nigerian, either directly or indirectly, and underscored the need to build professional systems to ensure care is safer, more dignified, accountable, and sustainable. The NIC is committed to playing a pivotal role in this transformative process.
