Abuja: The President of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), Dr. Ademola Ar©, has expressed the determination of the Stallions to improve Nigeria’s current seventh position in Africa during the World Rugby SVNS 3 qualifier in Uganda. Ar© shared this ambition in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ar© highlighted the intensified preparations undertaken by the team for the competition scheduled for September 26 to 27. The squad includes players based in the United Kingdom, with three additional players from Nigeria set to join them. Ar© emphasized the commitment of the players and the strategic importance attached to the preparations by the federation. He assured that the government and NRFF management are fully supportive of the team, ensuring no delegation member is left behind.
Ar© expressed Nigeria’s goal of a strong performance in Uganda, aiming to surpass the current seventh position in Africa. He acknowledged the challenging opposition, particularly from Uganda and Morocco, but expressed confidence in the squad’s capabilities. The federation president also highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s opening match against Ghana, noting the historical sports rivalry between the two nations and expressing optimism for a successful start.
While acknowledging the strength of leading African rugby nations like South Africa and Kenya, Ar© stated the objective is to improve Nigeria’s ranking through a strong outing rather than making unrealistic claims. He also confirmed that logistical issues, including visas, have been addressed to ensure the team’s readiness for the competition.
The World Rugby SVNS 3 qualifier will see Nigeria among the African teams competing for a spot in the 2027 SVNS 3 competition.
