Abuja: The President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Bashir Adeniyi, has approved a closed-door camping for Nigerian wrestlers ahead of the World Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. This strategic decision aims to ensure thorough preparation for the athletes as they gear up for the global event.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the announcement was made by Promise Okotoko, NWF Media Assistant, who detailed that the intensive camping program will take place at two designated venues in Bayelsa and Ondo. The federation’s commitment to providing the athletes with essential preparation and support is evident in the initiation of this focused training regimen.
Akuh Purity, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation and head coach of the women’s wrestling team, highlighted the benefits of the camping initiative. “The camping will further strengthen the wrestlers physically, technically, and mentally,” Purity stated, emphasizing the comprehensive development the athletes will undergo during this period.
Purity also expressed appreciation for the NWF President’s support of both home-based and foreign-based wrestlers. He noted that such initiatives reflect Adeniyi’s dedication to ensuring Nigerian wrestlers receive the necessary backing to compete on the international stage.
The 2026 World Wrestling Championships in Kazakhstan is anticipated to be a significant event, bringing together the world’s leading wrestlers. Team Nigeria is expected to showcase their skills across various registered weight categories, aiming for a strong performance at the championship.
