Kachia:The Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery has been encouraged to advance indigenous research and technology to bolster its capabilities in joint and multi-domain operations. This call to action was made by retired Maj.-Gen. Lawrence Jokotola during the 2026 Vulcan Training Period/Exercise Vulcan Glow XII Study Period at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Jokotola emphasized the importance of the study period in enhancing the knowledge and skills of artillery personnel. He highlighted the necessity for the corps to adopt new training and operational strategies in response to evolving security challenges. Jokotola also pointed out that the Nigerian Army must develop indigenous solutions to maintain competitiveness on a global scale.
He praised the corps for its effective support in military operations nationwide and its initiatives in research, development, and indigenous armament solutions. Additionally, Jokotola commended the Nigerian Army’s leadership for its efforts to transform the force into a more professional and combat-ready organization.
Jokotola urged Maj.-Gen. John Adeyemo, the Corps Commander, to ensure the success of Exercise Vulcan Glow XII, underscoring the importance of regular training and equipment maintenance for operational effectiveness. He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support and leadership.
Maj.-Gen. Adeyemo highlighted the study period’s role in sharing experiences and identifying capability gaps. He noted that Exercise Vulcan Glow XII would focus on improving administrative and operational competencies, reinforcing the corps’ traditional role in coordinating fire support.
Adeyemo revealed ongoing efforts to enhance artillery platforms and equipment through partnerships with indigenous companies, citing improvements to the Shika artillery platform as examples. These innovations are aimed at increasing operational efficiency and artillery effectiveness.
He acknowledged the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for guiding the modernization of artillery capabilities and expressed appreciation to retired officers for their contributions. Adeyemo encouraged continued professionalism and innovation within the corps, emphasizing the importance of leadership and collaboration in achieving success.
