Abuja: The Unity Advocacy Group (UAG) has announced that the creation of four additional Nigerian Army divisions will bolster ongoing counter-terrorism operations and enhance the military’s response to emerging security threats nationwide. The Convener of the group, Mr. Ifeanyi Aigbedion, released a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, reacting to the recent expansion of the Nigerian Army’s divisional structure.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Aigbedion labeled the decision by President Bola Tinubu and the military high command as a strategic move aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of the Armed Forces. He emphasized that the additional divisions would improve command and control, facilitate quicker troop deployment, and extend military presence in vulnerable regions.
He highlighted that the expansion is occurring at a crucial time when security forces are maintaining pressure on terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements across various operational theatres. The new formations are expected to provide greater operational flexibility for commanders and enhance the coordination of military operations aimed at restoring peace and security.
Aigbedion further mentioned that having an increased military presence in strategic locations would enhance intelligence gathering, strengthen surveillance, and support efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and criminal hideouts. He stated, “The establishment of the new divisions demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture and responding effectively to evolving security challenges.”
He expressed confidence that the expanded force structure would significantly reinforce ongoing counter-terrorism operations and improve the military’s capacity to protect lives and property across the country. He also commended the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for his leadership in driving strategic reforms and capacity-building initiatives within the Armed Forces.
Aigbedion expressed optimism that the additional divisions would consolidate recent operational gains and further enhance joint military operations against criminal elements. The group also praised President Tinubu for supporting measures aimed at improving the effectiveness of the military and strengthening national security, expressing confidence that the new divisions would contribute to the restoration of lasting peace, stability, and socio-economic development across the nation.
