Post: Nigeria’s ‘Renewed Hope’ Agenda Bolstering Investor Confidence, Says Presidential Aide

Abu dhabi: The Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Ms Olu Verheijen, has highlighted that Nigeria’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda is significantly enhancing investor confidence by promoting clear governance, transparency, and data-driven energy policies. Verheijen made these remarks during a panel session titled ‘Incentivising Sustainable Growth through Government Energy Policies’ at the 2025 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) in Abu Dhabi.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Verheijen explained that the agenda serves as a technology-neutral and capital-attraction framework aimed at achieving measurable socio-economic outcomes across various sectors of the economy. She emphasized that the government has implemented a transparent structure that distinctly separates policy, regulation, and commercial operations. This structure allows NNPC Limited to operate as a commercially focused and globally competitive partner within the oil, gas, power, and renewable energy sectors.

‘We have established clear governance separating policy, regulation, and a commercially focused NNPC. This clarity is a key signal to the global investment community that Nigeria is open for business,’ Verheijen stated.

She further noted that the initiative employs a data-driven approach to assess impact through key performance indicators, including job creation, macroeconomic stability, power generation, and affordable clean cooking solutions. The reforms following the removal of fuel subsidies are being managed to ensure gas affordability while attracting new investments in infrastructure and domestic supply.

‘We measure success through investor inflows, job creation, and outcomes like increased power generation and access to clean cooking,’ she added, reiterating Nigeria’s commitment to utilizing its abundant gas resources as a transition fuel and catalyst for industrial and economic growth.

The presentation underscored Nigeria’s dedication to sustainable energy development, transparency, and partnerships to deliver tangible benefits to citizens within the framework of the ‘Renewed Hope’ economic agenda. The 41st edition of ADIPEC, themed ‘Energy. Intelligence. Impact,’ is taking place from Nov. 3 to Nov. 6, bringing together international, regional, and local stakeholders across the energy, technology, and finance sectors. This year’s conference centers on advancing decarbonization, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and local content development for sustainable global energy growth.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Renewed Hope Agenda is a reform and development plan under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in Nigeria, aiming to achieve a one trillion-dollar economy by 2030. The agenda prioritizes economic growth, security, human capital development, and infrastructure. Key initiatives include reforms to improve the economy, such as removing fuel subsidies, unifying the exchange rate, and making substantial investments in social programs like the ‘Renewed Hope Cities and Estates’ for affordable housing and initiatives to empower women and youths.
