Abuja: National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) and Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen institutional development, capacity building, research, and good governance.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Director-General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, and the Executive Chairman of the Jigawa anti-corruption commission, Mr. Salisu Abdu, signed the MoU at the headquarters of NILDS in Abuja. Sulaiman commended the Jigawa government for establishing the commission, noting it promotes transparency, accountability, and democratic governance. He highlighted Gov. Umar Namadi’s commitment to transparent governance, institutional reforms, and accountability.
Sulaiman emphasized the need for implementing existing laws through competent professionals dedicated to transparency, accountability, and prudent public resource management. He stated that the MoU would enhance institutional capacity through specialized training, knowledge exchange, and exposure to global best practices in governance, legislative studies, and public administration.
He described NILDS as Nigeria’s foremost institution for legislative and democratic studies, providing specialized training, research, consultancy, and capacity development for public institutions across West Africa. Sulaiman stressed the institute’s commitment to practical outcomes that strengthen institutions, accountability, and democratic governance across Nigeria.
Mr. Salisu Abdu, on his part, expressed that the partnership marks a significant milestone that will deepen institutional cooperation and strengthen governance. He noted that the Jigawa anti-corruption commission, inaugurated in February 2024, remains committed to integrity and public service.
Abdu outlined the commission’s mandate to address public complaints, prevent corruption, and deliver responsive public service through professionalism, transparency, accountability, and continuous institutional improvement. He highlighted that the agreement would facilitate specialized training, research, policy development, technical assistance, and knowledge exchange to enhance governance and anti-corruption efforts across Jigawa.
The partnership aims to produce practical programs, measurable outcomes, and stronger institutions through joint training, research, policy dialogues, and knowledge exchange for improved public sector performance. Abdu reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to faithfully implementing the MoU and expressed optimism that the collaboration would advance accountability, democratic governance, and sustainable development.
