Abuja: The Federal Government has affirmed its commitment to addressing terrorism and insecurity in Nigeria without succumbing to panic. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, conveyed this assurance during a briefing with State House correspondents following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Idris explained that the government is addressing security concerns responsibly and diplomatically, particularly in light of Nigeria’s recent designation by the United States as a ‘country of particular concern’. He emphasized that the government’s primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of its citizens, while also balancing internal and external concerns regarding the security situation.
Idris highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to religious tolerance and freedom, asserting that the government is dedicated to protecting citizens’ rights to worship freely, as guaranteed by the Constitution. He underscored that the government remains calm and focused in its national security efforts, with President Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council maintaining a stable approach.
The minister also noted that Nigeria is collaborating with international and regional partners to combat terrorism and violent extremism. Diplomatic channels have been established with the United States, and the government prefers to resolve issues through diplomatic means. Idris reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to safeguarding citizens while upholding Nigeria’s dignity and sovereignty in international relations.
