Sokoto: NTA Sokoto marks its 50th anniversary with a reunion event, celebrating its legacy and contributions to Nigerian television. A statement issued by Dr. Danladi Bako, a member of the Organising Committee, highlighted tributes paid by veteran broadcaster Mr. Peter Igho to the station’s workers.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Igho, who is the chairman of the Organising Committee and a pioneer member of the station’s staff, praised the current management and employees for maintaining the high standards established at the station’s inception. During a pre-event interview, Igho expressed confidence that the reunion ceremony would be well attended and serve as a platform to reinvigorate content delivery goals for Nigerian television, reaffirming NTA’s role as a creative leader in the broadcast industry.
The station, originally established as Northwest Television in September 1975 under the leadership of Alhaji Adamu Augie, became known for its excellence in programming, including award-winning dramas and documentaries recognized at both national and international festivals. It also produced influential television series such as ‘Cock Crow at Dawn’ and ‘Bala Miller Show,’ both developed by Igho.
NTA Sokoto has been instrumental in the careers of industry veterans like Sen. Ibrahim Gobir, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, and Alhaji Kere Ahmed. The station’s legacy includes contributions from notable figures such as Bako, former Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, and Usman Magawata, a former Director General of NTA.
