Ede: Prof. Taiwo Olaiya, the Chairman of the Governing Council at The Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun, has expressed that the passing of Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, represents a significant loss to the nation. Olaiya made these remarks during the 8th day fidau prayer held in Oyeweso’s hometown, Ede, Osun.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Oyeweso passed away on December 2 following a brief illness. Prior to his death, he also held the position of Provost at the College of Postgraduate Studies, Osun State University. Olaiya noted the personal impact of the loss, describing Oyeweso as a man of deep historical and cultural knowledge.
Oyeweso was revered for his role as a bridge builder and an inspirational figure who encouraged the youth to embrace and speak their native language confidently on a global platform. Olaiya praised the late scholar’s willingness to support others and address matters with the appropriate urgency.
