Abuja:The Obidient Movement has appointed Mr. Moses Paul as its new National Coordinator. This announcement was made in a statement issued in Abuja by Mr. Onyeka Dike from the movement’s Media and Communications Directorate.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Paul’s appointment follows the reassignment of Mr. Yunusa Tanko, who now serves as Special Adviser to Peter Obi on Northern Nigeria. Tanko, who was the national coordinator for three years, expressed gratitude to the leadership, members, and supporters for their backing during his tenure.
During his time as coordinator, Tanko focused on strengthening the movement’s organizational structure and institutional framework. He was instrumental in the formation of a National Advisory Council to enhance strategic engagement and transition the movement from election-cycle activism to a sustainable institution.
Tanko also oversaw the establishment of offices in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, along with five regional coordinators and a regional collegiate council. Under his leadership, grassroots structures were developed across 37 state coordination areas and 774 local government areas to bolster the movement’s nationwide presence and mobilization efforts.
An online platform, www.obidients.com, was launched for mobilization and recruitment, along with an election-results monitoring system linked to INEC’s Results Viewing Portal. Tanko’s contributions to the movement’s organizational development and expansion were commended by its leaders.
In his new role, Tanko will lead efforts to mobilize and engage communities across Northern Nigeria. Meanwhile, Mr. Moses Paul, the successor as national coordinator, expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in him and committed to building on existing structures. He emphasized the movement’s focus on being driven by citizens rather than individuals and sought the cooperation and support of its members.
Mr. Paul was also the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairmanship in the February 21 FCT area council election.
