Abuja:The FCT Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. This announcement was made during the 2026 Igbo Nmanma Celebration, Excellence Awards, and the unveiling of the Ohanaeze Cooperative Society, which attracted over 4,000 attendees.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the event saw the participation of various Igbo leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, traditional leaders, politicians, and community members. Among the speakers was Sen. Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo, who highlighted the economic contributions of the Ndigbo and their role in fostering relationships across communities. Okorocha emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among Nigerians and relayed greetings from the Igbo community to President Tinubu and his wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, also addressed the gathering, affirming her strong ties with the Igbo community and advocating for political participation driven by collective interests. She encouraged collaboration among Nigerians to achieve common goals.
Hon. Ginika Tor, a former Commissioner at the Federal Character Commission, acknowledged the contributions of the Ndigbo to national development and stressed that the recognition of distinguished community members was based on merit rather than ethnicity. The celebration served as an opportunity to foster unity, preserve cultural identity, and reflect on the community’s history and future.
Highlights of the event included the Igbo Nmanma Excellence Awards, which honored individuals for their societal contributions, and the unveiling of the Ohanaeze Cooperative Society, aimed at enhancing economic cooperation among members.
Chief Andrew Afulukwe, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT Chapter, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and FCT Administration for their support and reiterated the community’s commitment to investment and business activities in Abuja. He called for continued peace and cooperation among Nigerians, emphasizing the community’s dedication to peaceful coexistence and the development of both Abuja and Nigeria.
The celebration concluded with prayers for the Igbo community, the Federal Capital Territory, and Nigeria, as participants reaffirmed their dedication to cultural identity, unity, and national development.
