Enugu: Former Enugu State Commissioner for Labour and Employment, Mr. Chika Ugwuoke, has pledged to partner with the Enugu State Government in providing healthcare needs for retirees, civil servants, and government appointees. Ugwuoke, a pharmacist, made this commitment during the launch of Maxcare Pharmacy and Tulip Bodycare in Enugu.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ugwuoke, who serves as the Group Managing Director of Maxcare Group, revealed that he and his wife, Dr. Uju Ugwuoke, decided to bring their business outlet home to benefit the people of the state. The company, which includes a pharmacy and beauty section, will collaborate with the Enugu State Government to reach out to the poor, the needy, and retirees regarding healthcare.
Ugwuoke noted that his time as a commissioner allowed him to interact with retirees, many of whom face various health challenges. He stated that almost all pensioners are on some form of medication, but not all are financially able to afford these treatments.
‘We will come out with schemes to help them. We are going to roll out a specific discount scheme for retirees and even the civil servants,’ he said. ‘Through this scheme, those with chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, and similar conditions will be attended to at reduced prices. We are starting with pensioners who are part of the most vulnerable, then moving to civil servants of particular levels and state appointees.’
Ugwuoke commended former and current government officials for attending the event and highlighted that the outlet was their 15th branch in Nigeria. He emphasized that the branch’s establishment in Enugu aligns with the vision of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, which has prepared the ground for businesses to thrive in the state.
He further mentioned that setting up the branch in Enugu is an opportunity to create jobs and boost the state’s economy, which has become a haven for businesses, appealing to residents to support the business.
Dr. Uju Ugwuoke, Managing Director of Tulip Bodycare and Ugwuoke’s wife, explained that Maxcare began in 2009, offering essential healthcare services to Nigerians by making its products more affordable. Tulip Bodycare started six years ago, with the Enugu branch marking the sixth company outlet.
Mrs. Ugwuoke emphasized that the company offers a range of genuine and affordable beauty care products. ‘We have a wide range of products, our prices are the best. The prices will shock you, and we have specialists to attend to our customers,’ she said.
Earlier in the event, Mrs. Ngozi Eni, the State Commissioner for Gender, Children Affairs, and Social Development, praised the Ugwuoke family for investing in their home state. Eni expressed hope that the business would address the health and body care needs of residents, encouraging more investors to see Enugu as open for genuine business opportunities with a favorable environment.
