Abuja: Dr Bala Inusa, Senior Technical Adviser to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has urged Nigerians to intensify efforts toward achieving the 2030 climate-related targets. Inusa made the call at the 2025 Nigeria SDG Awards and Symposium organised by the African Cleanup Initiative, in partnership with the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event, themed ‘Scaling Up Actions: Accelerating Nigeria’s Journey Towards the 2030 Agenda,’ aimed to strengthen awareness and advocacy around the implementation of the SDGs. Inusa highlighted that the awards were part of ongoing advocacy to encourage Nigerians to engage with all SDG components, particularly climate action. He emphasized the collaborative efforts of the government, the private sector, and civil society groups in working towards these targets.
Mrs Ibironke Olubamise, Global Environment Specialist at the Small Grants Programme of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and an award recipient, expressed her gratitude for the recognition. She urged Nigerians to remain committed to excellence in their respective fields, emphasizing the importance of their contributions being observed by others. Olubamise mentioned her organisation’s role in supporting communities and civil society groups to tackle environmental challenges and enhance environmental protection.
Mr Iduh Otene, Executive Director of the Alliance for Positive Environmental Impact and Reforestation (APEARE), also an award recipient, shared that the recognition would motivate the organisation to deepen its work, especially on climate-related issues. He emphasized the need for increased grassroots impact and broader participation from Nigerians.
Ezegwoya Joseph, North Central Operations Coordinator of APEARE, expressed appreciation for the award and noted that it would drive the organisation to intensify its efforts in addressing climate change adaptation and mitigation challenges.
