Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, announced that the Rainbow Coalition was established to serve the interests of the Rivers people in the upcoming 2027 elections. Wike shared this during a media chat in Abuja, highlighting the coalition’s objective to unite various political parties for the collective benefit of the state.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike, the former governor of Rivers, emphasized the coalition’s focus on transcending party lines by endorsing candidates deemed most capable of advancing the state’s interests. Despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) being the ruling party at both national and state levels, he acknowledged that other parties have commendable candidates who deserve support for the greater good of Rivers.
Wike explained that candidates from parties such as the Labor Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), APC, and Action Alliance are being considered for different legislative positions. The coalition seeks to strategically e
ndorse candidates from various parties based on their appeal and capability, ensuring representation in the House of Assembly and National Assembly.
He stressed that the coalition’s candidate, if victorious, would represent the coalition rather than any single party, ensuring that the interests of Rivers are prioritized. For the presidential election, Wike expressed unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu, urging opposition parties to exclude Rivers from their electoral plans, as the coalition is firmly behind Tinubu’s re-election.
Wike dismissed any notions that the coalition was formed to fortify a specific political party. The primary goal, he asserted, is to foster development in Rivers. He underscored the importance of the state’s relevance and the benefits its people receive from governmental projects.
