Abuja: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) has launched a specialised cochlear implant and hearing-rehabilitation programme in Abuja. The programme aims to conduct approximately 30 cochlear implant surgeries, primarily targeting children, with the objective of restoring their hearing and facilitating their integration into society.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this initiative represents a significant humanitarian intervention by the Saudi government to address severe hearing loss among Nigerian children. The programme is conducted in collaboration with Nigerian health authorities, with surgeries taking place at the National Hospital Abuja. It provides a comprehensive care pathway, including diagnosis, surgery, follow-up, auditory therapy, and speech rehabilitation, offering transformative support for beneficiaries and their families.
Mr Saad Al-Marri, the Charg© d’Affaires of the Saudi Embassy in Nigeria, praised the partnership, highlighting the humanitarian significance of the project. “This programme reflects the Kingdom’s dedication to supporting vulnerable communities and strengthening health systems in friendly nations,” he stated. He emphasized KSRelief’s commitment to delivering impactful solutions that restore hope, transform lives, and deepen the partnership between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.
He further noted that the cochlear implant initiative builds on KSRelief’s ongoing humanitarian efforts in Nigeria and across Africa. The centre actively engages in medical interventions, disease-control programmes, and relief efforts for communities affected by crises throughout the continent. The programme reaffirms Saudi Arabia’s commitment, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
