Post: Scrabble Champions Jimoh, Nwali, and Doko Set Sights on World Stage

Lagos: President of the Lekki Scrabble Club, Samuel Anikoh, has described reigning Lekki Scrabble Classics champion Abdulmumeen Jimoh as an inspiration to young players. Anikoh expressed these sentiments in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), emphasizing Jimoh’s discipline, humility, and commitment to improvement as qualities that make him a role model for aspiring Scrabble players.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Anikoh praised Jimoh’s performance and noted the strong bond and healthy rivalry between Jimoh, Enoch Nwali, and Timilehin Doko. He described the progress of the trio as enviable, stating that they have the potential to dominate the world stage if they continue on their current trajectory. Jimoh’s recent accomplishments include dominating the 2025 Lekki Scrabble Classics and winning the Gov. Duoye Diri competition in Bayelsa.

Anikoh highlighted that Jimoh narrowly missed out on the African championship to his friend Doko but has remained successful in other Scrabble events. With the 2026 classics scheduled for September 26 and 27, there is excitement over the anticipated quality of the competition. Jimoh is expected to return to defend his title amid increased competition as the tournament’s top prize has been raised to 1,000 dollars.

In addition, Anikoh announced that the club will introduce a section for children under age 12 at the 2026 classics, building on its school Scrabble program. This initiative aims to give young players an opportunity to experience competitive Scrabble early, highlighting the benefits of introducing them to the game at a young age. The club remains committed to developing the next generation of Nigerian Scrabble champions.
