Post: SDP Advocates for Inclusive Development and Poverty Reduction in Nigeria

Lagos:Some stakeholders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Lagos State have called for concerted efforts to tackle poverty and economic deprivation in Nigeria. They emphasized that the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary should be a time for renewed commitment to inclusive development.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the stakeholders made this appeal during a news conference in Lagos on Thursday, commemorating Independence Day. Mrs. Tinuola Aina, Deputy Chairman of the SDP in the state, highlighted that the anniversary should remind Nigerians that independence should lead to improved quality of life, dignity, and opportunities.

Mrs. Aina encouraged SDP members and supporters to actively engage in the democratic process, exercise their voting rights responsibly, and reject vote-buying. She stressed the importance of ensuring that votes are counted properly, urging citizens to vote with conscience and integrity.

The SDP’s mission, as outlined by the party’s leaders, includes promoting good governance, democracy, social justice, peace, and security while advocating for a sustainable economy. They called for a collective aspiration towards a Nigeria where poverty is reduced and citizens are empowered to contribute to national development.

Mr. Oluwamuyiwa Oludotun, the party’s state secretary, reiterated the SDP’s commitment to a people-oriented political system that prioritizes welfare and economic empowerment. He noted that 66 years post-independence, Nigeria should achieve greater progress in human development, infrastructure, and social welfare.

Mr. Adegboyega Adeniyi, SDP candidate for Lagos East Senatorial District, urged voters to participate actively in elections, make informed choices based on candidates’ programs and integrity, and protect their votes against manipulation. He emphasized that the future of communities should not be compromised for temporary inducements.

Mr. Femi Falowo, another SDP candidate, urged reflection on the nation’s progress and the need for quality education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He highlighted the importance of responsive representation and effective engagement between elected officials and the electorate, measuring political leadership by its impact on citizens’ lives. Falowo called for peaceful, law-abiding conduct and issue-based campaigns during elections.
