Abuja: The Sentinel Security Advocacy Initiative has commended President Bola Tinubu and National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu for the recent approval of a salary increase for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces. The group’s Convener, Mallam Abubakar Usman, expressed this appreciation in a statement, highlighting the significant impact of this decision on national security and military morale.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Usman described the approval as a landmark move, underscoring President Tinubu’s dedication to enhancing the welfare and operational capacity of the armed forces. He noted that the administration has consistently prioritized the well-being of military personnel through strategic investments and improved welfare policies, including the procurement of modern military equipment to combat terrorism and other threats.
Usman emphasized that these investments have already led to tangible improvements on the battlefield. He praised the administration’s approach, which translates policy into action, thereby boosting troop morale and operational efficiency. Additionally, he commended Ribadu for fostering collaboration among security agencies and advocating for better welfare for frontline personnel.
The convener also highlighted Ribadu’s effective diplomatic efforts with the United States and Western partners, which have streamlined the acquisition of essential military hardware. This diplomacy has minimized bureaucratic delays and facilitated the procurement of vital equipment.
Usman detailed the new remuneration structure, explaining that officers above the rank of Colonel will receive a 30% salary increase, while those from Colonel to Warrant Officer will see a 50% increase. Personnel from Private to Staff Sergeant will enjoy an 80% increase. The federal government’s salary adjustment will raise the armed forces’ annual wage bill from N660 billion to N924 billion, further demonstrating its commitment to personnel welfare.
He urged security agencies to leverage the improved welfare package to enhance operations against insurgency and violent crimes. Usman called for proactive and decisive actions in safeguarding national security and recommended tripling the allowances of frontline personnel to adequately support their sacrifices.
Reaffirming the organization’s commitment, Usman pledged support for initiatives that bolster Nigeria’s security institutions and ensure the safety of its citizens.
