Post: Speaker, Deputy Speaker sympathises with victims of Borno flood disaster


The Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Abbas Tajudeen, has lamented the flood that ravaged Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Speaker Abbas, who expressed dismay at the flood, called for concerted efforts to provide succour to the affected residents.

The Speaker said that he was disturbed by the news of the ravaging flood, saying the situation calls for concern to every well-meaning Nigerian.

The Speaker equally called on the residents of other cities in the country where weather forecasts by relevant authorities indicated there would be floods in the coming days and weeks to take heed.

In the same vein, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Okezie Kalu has expressed his concerns over the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He is also commiserating with the families of the victims and other affected persons.

Kalu in his reaction bemoaned the tragedy, sympathizing with the victims, the people and the government of Borno State.

Attributing the downpour t
o the impact of global warming, Kalu also underscored the need for the activation of relevant policies on the subject of climate change around the country to help forestall future occurrences.

The Deputy Speaker urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to quickly step in and provide expected reliefs and succour to the victims.

He assured of adequate legislative interventions to ensure that the effect of the tragedy will not overwhelm the people.

Reportedly caused by the collapse of Alao Dam following a downpour, the flooding wrecked havoc on the properties of the people including the palace of Shehu of Borno and displaced many people from their homes.
