STI TV to premier by December – Mamora

The Federal Government says the proposed Science,Technology and Innovation (STI) Television is expected to premier before the end of 2022.

The Minister of STI, Dr Adeleke Mamora tasked agencies in the ministry to work towards commencement of the station during a tour of the facility in Abuja.

The facility, domiciled in the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) is designed to broadcast activities of the ministry.

He said: “Nobody can propagate our activities more than ourselves.

“We are looking at starting this station before the end of the year, to start telling our stories as fast as possible.

“Everybody involved in the establishment of the station should put efforts in place to achieve this because I will personally see to that.”

Earlier, Dr Halilu Shaba, Director-General, NASRDA, while conducting the Minister round the TV station, said materials for the station had been locally sourced and put together by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure.

Shaba said it was a way of supporting home-grown technology.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the STI TV initiative began in 2021.

It focused on Nigeria’s contribution to STI by broadcasting latest outputs and products from all research institutions and latest STI developments from all over the world.

The former STI Minister, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, stated that the STI TV could mobilise Nigerians to advocate more for effective utilisation of STI to attain the desired greatness in the country.
