Abuja:The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has fundamentally redefined infrastructure development across the nation’s capital.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike made these remarks on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing the media after inspecting several ongoing road projects aimed at decongesting traffic and promoting development in the territory.
The minister inspected the construction of Arterial Road SI, from Ring Road II to Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) in Kaura District and Collector Road C2 in Life Camp to Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way). He also reviewed the work on Arterial Road N16 from Ring Road II to Ring Road III, Jereton Mariere Street by the Apo Legislative Quarters in Gudu District, and the remodeling of the IBB Golf Course.
Mr. Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the work, noting that the administration is on track to complete these projects ahead of the 2027 general elections. He is optimistic that Arterial Road N16 will be completed as scheduled, despite the complex terrain and heavy bridge construction involved, with the firm guaranteeing delivery by the first week of January.
Regarding the IBB Golf Course renovation, the minister confirmed that the club would be operational and ready to host major tournaments by November.
Discussing financial aspects, Wike mentioned that the 2026 capital budget had achieved 60 percent performance. He acknowledged initial budget release delays that affected contractor payments but confirmed that funding flow has stabilized, allowing contractors to work at full capacity.
Wike also advised political candidates to focus on their records rather than engaging in political rhetoric ahead of the upcoming election cycle.
