Abuja: Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), has emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is spearheading sustainable development and economic growth through significant advancements in the energy sector. Abdullahi made these remarks during a dinner in Abuja, organized by Nigerians both domestically and internationally, to celebrate the mid-term achievements of the Tinubu-led government.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event, themed ‘Two Years of Impact: Honouring Mr President and the Voices of Renewed Hope’, saw attendance from prominent APC chieftains, government appointees, and state government representatives. Abdullahi highlighted the administration’s solarisation initiatives, noting that President Tinubu is committed to improving the country. He elaborated on the administration’s drive towards sustainable development and economic growth through solarisation efforts.
Under the solarisation initiative, Abdullahi explained that all tertiary institutions, universities, and primary healthcare centers nationwide would harness solar energy. The commission is in discussions with a leading global solar panel manufacturer to establish a production facility in Nigeria. Abdullahi stated, “The solarisation project is going to be across every state of the federation, not just Abuja alone, it is going to be done in all universities and tertiary institutions.” He commended Tinubu’s solarisation efforts, asserting that Nigeria is securing its rightful place on the global stage.
Abdullahi also praised the presidency and the Voices of Renewed Hope for their leadership and dedication to meaningful change. He expressed gratitude for the transformations witnessed, particularly in the energy sector, during his tenure as the ECN DG. Abdullahi urged Nigerians to support Tinubu’s administration and his 2027 re-election bid, emphasizing the administration’s roadmap for Nigeria’s progressive future.
The DG announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Energy Engineering Corporation Ltd (CEEC) and the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) to enhance renewable energy infrastructure. The agreement aims to address Nigeria’s energy challenges through strategic partnerships and innovation, supporting state-level energy planning and developing green energy infrastructure.
The partnership will establish the Nigeria-China Renewable Energy Research Centre to promote technological innovation and human capacity in renewable energy. This collaboration aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which has already initiated transformative reforms in the power sector, including the constitutional amendment and the signing of the Nigerian Electricity Act 2023.
Mr Ade Omole, the chief host of the dinner and a former Director of the APC Diaspora Campaign Directorate, emphasized the event’s focus on truth-telling rather than mere praise. He highlighted that the Tinubu administration is measuring its impact rather than just counting years. Dr Aliyu Modibo, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on General Duties, represented Vice President Kashim Shettima and applauded Tinubu’s commitment to safeguarding all interests in Nigeria.
