Okposi okwu: The Ugoni community in Okposi Okwu, Ebonyi, has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for dismantling an alleged industrial-scale methamphetamine laboratory operating in the community. Chinonso Obasi, Patron of the Ugoni Youth Development Union, expressed gratitude in a statement, also condemning illicit drug production and related criminal activities.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Obasi highlighted the public attention garnered by the discovery and dismantling of the meth lab and the individuals allegedly involved. He emphasized that the full details were still under investigation and due process. The community firmly stated its opposition to illicit drug production and criminal enterprises, maintaining its reputation as peaceful and hardworking.
Obasi, representing the peace-loving youths of Ugoni, expressed solidarity with the NDLEA, calling for a thorough and impartial investigation into the meth lab’s operations. He underscored the dangers of methamphetamine, a highly addictive substance with severe consequences for individuals and communities. Obasi demanded that those responsible face the law.
He particularly praised the efforts of NDLEA Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Kabiru Zakari, who led the operation, which was executed without any casualties. Obasi also commended the leadership of NDLEA under its Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, for ongoing efforts to combat illicit drug activities in Nigeria.
Highlighting the importance of early detection and decisive enforcement, Obasi, a former National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students and the Nigerian Youth Union, reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for a safer Nigeria. He urged a deeper investigation to identify all individuals linked to the meth lab, ensuring justice according to Nigerian law.
Obasi appealed to authorities to avoid stigmatizing innocent community members due to the alleged actions of a few.
