Saakpenwa:Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has expressed his belief that the people of Ogoni in Rivers State will strongly support President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This statement was made during a town hall meeting held in Saakpenwa, Tai Local Government Area.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike asserted that the Ogoni people would use their votes to acknowledge and reward President Tinubu for his contributions to the region. These contributions include the establishment of the Federal University of Environment and Technology and the appointment of Ogoni individuals to key positions in federal parastatals.
Wike emphasized the significance of the new university, describing it as a catalyst for employment, economic growth, and regional development. He explained that securing federal approval for such an institution involves complex executive and legislative processes, and credited the late Senator Barry Mpigi for his sustained efforts in this regard.
Furthermore, Wike welcomed political associates returning to the Rainbow Coalition and praised the coalition’s leadership in Ogoni for promoting unity and reconciliation. He called on Ogoni political stakeholders to mobilize voters in support of Tinubu and other candidates endorsed by the Rainbow Coalition.
In addition, Mr. Mbakpone Okpe, Chairman of Tai Local Government Council and Coordinator of the Rainbow Coalition in Tai, assured Wike of the council’s dedication to the university’s growth and the coalition’s objectives. Okpe highlighted the council’s construction of the university’s entrance gate and an internal dual carriageway, as well as a monthly allocation of N120 million to an empowerment scheme benefiting 3,400 Tai residents.
